Recycling e-bike batteries: everything you need to know!

Recycling von e-Bike-Batterien: Alles, was du wissen musst!

Whether it's for the way to work, a quick trip to see friends or just for fun - your e-bike is your constant companion. But like any wearing part, the battery also loses power over time, no matter which model you ride, whether EOVOLT Afternoon PRO or another model. This raises the question: "What do I actually do with an old battery?" We have the answer for you!

How long does an e-bike battery actually last?
The range of your e-bike battery can be specified in kilometers or in charging cycles. A charging cycle means that the battery has been fully charged and discharged once. How far you actually go depends on several things - the weather, riding style and how often you charge your e-bike all play a role.

What to do if the battery runs out?
If the battery is no longer working as it used to, it's time to have it checked by a dealer (e.g. your EOVOLT Premium Store at TWENTY iNCH FACTORY). They can tell you whether the cells can be repaired or whether you need a new battery. But: The old battery does not belong in the household waste! It is full of valuable raw materials that can be recycled.

When does your e-bike battery need to be recycled?
If the battery stops working or is unsafe, simply take it to your dealer.

This is how e-bike batteries are recycled
The recycling process is similar to that of normal batteries.

Battery recycling process
The plastic casings are removed to separate the battery cells, which are then shredded so that the metals can be recycled and the remaining materials can be reclaimed.

Recycling rates of e-bike batteries:

- 25% of the battery is reused to make new batteries, including metals such as manganese, cobalt, nickel and lithium.
- 24% is used after melting to produce alloys, including non-ferrous metals such as copper and aluminium.
- 18% of batteries, mainly ferrous metals, are used for steel production.
- 17% of non-recyclable metal residues are incinerated.
- 16% of the battery consists of various plastics that are landfilled.
